What To Wear To Your Engagement Session

Figuring out what to wear for your engagement session is a big deal! What you wear dictates a lot in the overall feel of the photos as well as your comfort and level of confidence. It can be hard choosing what colors and styles work best and what coordinates well with your partners outfit… there are so many moving pieces to it!

So, if you’re feeling stressed about what to wear to your engagement session, look no further! As an experienced photographer, I have captured countless engagement sessions and have seen it all. I’m here today to share with you all of my tips and do’s and don’ts when it comes to choosing your outfits!

Just keep on scrolling for all of the tips.

01.Choosing the perfect color palette

To narrow your options and simplify the process, start by choosing a color palette to pull from. When choosing your palette, look for soft colors, neutrals, and monotones! You can create a color palette based on a few colors so everything matches and looks aesthetically pleasing. Stay away from neon colors or anything that might take away from your face. You don’t want to wear distracting colors because that will be the focal point of your photos rather than you and your partner.

02. COMFORT is key

I can’t say it enough… comfort is key! Always dress comfortably for when you're getting your photos taken. The more uncomfortable your clothing is, the more it’ll show in the photos. Wear something you know doesn’t bother you and stay away from itchy materials. Comfort equals confidence and confidence equals amazing, genuine photos!

03. take into account the location

Basing your outfit on the location you’ll be getting photographed at is a great idea. If you’re being photographed in the desert, you can wear something more western-styled or even bohemian to fit the vibe. If you’re getting photographed in the city, you can wear something more classy or elegant to fit that city look or more of an urban style.

04. clothes with movement is a plus

Loose clothing is perfect to wear for movement within your photos. If it’s windy out, your photos will look more dramatic with a long loose-fitting dress! Loose clothing is also a lot more comfortable than tight-fitting clothes like skinny jeans, a fitted dress, etc.
